    In Memory

    Detective Sergeant Timothy R. Biggs

Timothy R. Biggs began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher for The Town of Porter. He was hired in 1978 by The Town of Hebron, realizing his dream of being a police officer. In 1979, Tim returned to the Town of Porter as a full-time officer. Tim was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1987, and to Sergeant in 1993. In 1997, Tim was promoted to Detective Sergeant. Tim continued to serve his fellow man despite his personal battle for his life.

On July 16, 1999 at 12:15 hours, Detective Sergeant Timothy R. Biggs answered his final call...
    His call to come home.

A Message from the Chief of Police

The Porter Police Department is made up of nine sworn officers and civilian employees, all dedicated to providing the highest quality law enforcement to the people of our community. Our community retains a small town feel, while providing an environment for business growth and development. It is both challenging and rewarding to serve the people of Porter. Our department is guided through our core values of Integrity, Fairness, and Service. We are innovative and aggressive in our approach to law enforcement. We have always worked closely with community residents, businesses and other government agencies to solve problems and prevent crime. One of the biggest challenges facing this department – and the entire nation – is our young people. The officers and civilian employees of this department are committed to preventing juvenile crime, and giving our young people constructive avenues for growth. Thank you for your support and stop by and visit us any time.

    Goals

We are dedicated to maintaining the highest professional standards while serving the community in which we work and live. We are committed to the enforcement of the laws of Indiana. We are dedicated to protecting life and property, while also respecting individual rights, human dignity, and community values. We are committed to creating and maintaining an active police/community relationship and assisting citizens in solving problems to improve the quality of life in our community.
