At the May Meeting of the Porter Police Merit Board, the board has suspended the current regular application process, and approved an Emergency Hiring process. The Police Department is now taking applications from current academy trained graduates until Friday, June 12, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. ONLINE ONLY at
Applicants must be certified from an Indiana state accredited police academy. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and must live in Porter County or an adjacent county within six months of appointment.
Applicants must already be in the Public Employment Retirement Fund (PERF), or be able to pass all physical requirements to enter into PERF (77fund).
A high School diploma or GED equivalent is required. An associate or bachelor’s degree is desired but not required.

Crime tips has been suspended because people have continually reported crimes and calls for service that are in progress. The Porter Police regrets this change, but cannot risk reports of situations in progress being reported to a link that is not monitored 24 hrs a day.
